Joe, I teach 7th and 8th graders Careers in a little south Georgia school. I have been trying to catch your shows because they are great. For extra points I've told my students to watch and write me a paragraph on the occupations you discussed. I would like to purchase your videos, but I cannot afford to and my school system cannot either. So, I am trying to view everone I can in order to share with my students. By the way, some of my students have started watching your program.

Do you know all the air times or how I can find out?

Please tell Darcy, Danielle, and Shawn what a great job you all are doing. I am so glad to see a program on television that does pertain to a person's real life.

Keep the segments coming, and keep up the good job.

Ms. LBH

I just wanted to let you all know that I had an opportunity to view your show this past Saturday morning (1/22) due to a huge snowstorm that hit our area, keeping most of us common sense people inside for the day! I am 43 years old and co-coordinate an initiative in Kalamazoo, MI called, Kalamazoo Youth Development Network. Our goal is to provide training, networking, collaborative, and resource sharing opportunities for youth-service agencies and those front-line professionals working with youth, and to enhance youth programming within our network free of charge. We serve over 78 agencies and also work within our local school system. Getting to my point, I put out a monthly newsletter to nearly 400 agency/individuals throughout our county and in a section I call "Lets Go Surfing Now" I highlight youth-related websites. I took your advice from Saturday and went onto your site today (obviously) and I can't wait to share it with my readers within our network. Your career exploration site and college search information is of great value to the thousands of kids served by our participating agency. Next time this old man gets snowed in on a Saturday morning, you can bet I will tune your show in again!

Thanks,

Scott Y. Moyer

This is really for all of you. I am a middle school teacher of 7th and 8th graders in Huntsville, AL. I absolutely love your show and your web site. They both meet a huge need for helping my students as they start thinking about their career paths. Keep up the good work! (I love your enthusiasm!)

Hey Shawn, um.... I would like to know if you can do an episode on crime scene investigation, because that is what I really want to do… I love your show [and] I learn a lot. Well, I got to go. Bye!

Hey! I am only in 7th grade but I really enjoy being creative and coming up with ideas! I LOVE to write too!! My question to you is, is it too early to start thinking about my career options? If not, what would some good ideas be?? Thanks in advance for helping!! Bye!

Dear Gang,

Just a word of thanks for the great job you do with Real Life 101.  I don't watch it every Sat., but I do from time to time and always find it interesting and informative.

I retired as a Vocational Education Administrator in the public school system here in Sylvester, GA (Peanut Capital of the World)  I have a BS & MEd degree from Georgia Southern University ('60/'66) in Industrial Arts Education and a EdD form North Carolina State University (go wolfpack) at Raleigh in Industrial Arts Education.  I taught Industrial Arts (now referred to as Technology Education) at both the high school and college/university level.  I taught at East Carolina University and West Virginia Institute of Technology for a total of six years.

Studying the World of Technology (far beyond Computers only, althought they are a tool also) the students at various levels study the technical aspects as well as career and recreational.  It is really a fasinating area from elementary school through the university.

I am thrilled with rl101 and hope many young people who are undecided about their life's work will take a look and find themselves in the right field of work.

Thanks again for the good work each of you do.  Keep it up!

Danielle,

How are you? My name is Donnie Shockley, and I'm the Senior MCO of WMAK Television, a station in Knoxville, TN that carries your program. I just wanted to drop you a line and say that I think you're doing a great job with the show. I'd like you to visit my band's website sometime if you get a chance - the address is www.atticus.biz. Take care and best of luck for the future!

Yours,
Donnie

Dear Darcy,

My name is Rachelle, and I'm 13 years old. I’m going into the 8th grade in a few short months. I was wondering if you could have a show where you interview a pediatrician. I really want a career in the medical field, but there's so many options. I don't know which one I want to get into. The reason I want to do something in the medical field is because my uncle is an anesthesiologist, and I think it's a really interesting career. I know you have to have good grades to be a doctor, but I was wondering how good of grades do you have to have because I have straight A's, but I kind of think that's still not enough, and it has to be straight A+. Well thank you for your time, and please write back soon, and tell me if you are going to have a show about it. Thanks again.

Sincerely,
Rachelle

Hey, your show is pretty cool. I was changing the channels around a couple of months ago, and I was like, "That guy's hair looks a lot like mine (because I'm growing my hair long)." And I've been watching ever since. The show really teaches a lot about the opportunities young people (not unlike myself) have in the 'Real World.' I fi

Postscript: I'm a fan of Rock music as well, and my favorite band is Pink Floyd (David Gilmour on guitar is freakin' awesome!)

I am a construction superintendent. I hire employees. Most people think construction as a no- brainer type work. I would like for your viewers to know I require a high school diploma from my applicants at a minimum. They must be knowledgeable in math. They must read above Dick and Jane. They must dress appropriately and have good social skills. They must show up every day and have a good work ethic.

Math is very important for my carpenters. They use it all day long. Measuring angles, dividing distances, calculating cubic feet, ordering materials the right length, and on and on. I have people come to me asking for a job without any of the above skills. They are turned away. So, if students in high school are considering a career in the trade industry, please instill in them to pay attention in school. They will need what they learn. Thank you.
